All in a Days Work

Today we had the most beautiful day of the year. Summer is just around the corner and today we got our first dose of it, and it was a spectacular one. Needless to say I did no reading, but spent most of the entire day outside. I started this morning about 10 am cleaning out all the leaves from my front yard garden. Two trips to the Home Depot for mulch, a new plant and several scratches on my arms and...walaahh! My hard work has paid off. The nice thing about laying down fresh mulch is the smell. That cedar scent permeates the air and I just love it! Devin had a half day so he helped me pick out a few other shrubs for his garden in the back yard. That's tomorrow, if it's not too windy!

I suppose you really can't tell a difference from one picture to the other, but it is a lot of work cleaning out that garden. The top picture is already cleaned out, the bottom one is after the mulch.

The boys even had a chance to enjoy the warm day and play in the water. It started in my yard and ended at the neighbors with a water balloon fight :).
Aww, sharin a sunbeam! Even the animals were relaxin in the sun!
I hope you all had a lovely day today too!

I'm so glad you had a great day Amy!!! I just ordered a couple of landscaping books for the backyard... not sure what I'm going to do yet. I need to clean out the flowerbeds and get some mulch too!

How pretty your garden looks. I can definitely tell the difference between the pre-mulch and the post-mulch pictures. Very nice. You're house is so cute too! :)

Animals looked like they were enjoying the sun as well! :)

Hi Cindy :)
Landscaping books are fun to look at! I'm having a dilemma with what I did around my deck. I put this concrete walkway around the whole thing about 3 feet from the deck for plants and shrubs. I want to put a small tree, preferable a pear along the long length of the deck but I'm not sure if I can with the concrete there. I would have to plant it awfully close to the deck in order to stay inside the walkway. I have thought about taking the middle section out and redoing it in like a half circle kinda thing so it will accommodate a tree, but whew, that's alot of work. It took me days to do what I did, but I think it would look really nice and it would eventually provide some shade for the deck...maybe :). I don't know, I'll have to give it some more thought.

I hope you find something in your books that catches your eye!

Why thank you, Tracy :). It's not very big but it's cozy for the three of us.

It looks great and you did a great clean up! I'm afraid I'm not into gardening, once in a while I plant some bulbs in the fall, but sometimes I feel like a have a black thumb. I plant impatiens and geraniums in pots on my front stoop and back patio and flower boxes but that's it. This weekend, I'll be sitting in the sun - reading, of course!

Hi Amy!!

What a beautiful yard! I wish we could get out in the yard. Our lilac bush finally bloomed, but that's it. It was nice here, but not hot, especially for playing in the water!! Wish it was like that here.

Hi Amy,

The yard looks great! Wed & Thurs were so beautiful here. It almost got to 80, we even cooked on the grill. Yum. Today was nice too, until a few mintues ago. It's thundering and raining. LOL! So, glad Spring is finally here. :)

Hi Julie, even doing little planters like you do is nice and makes your yard look nice! I can't do any planter planting for a few more weeks yet. Usually after mohter's day, then we're all clear of frosts and I don't have to worry about them dying or stunted growth. I like to use geraniums on planters. The red ones so pretty.

Hey Dottie, soon summer will be your way too! We are actually only getting this weather for the weekend, then it's supposed to get a little cool again, back in the 50's and maybe 60's. I have two lilacs in the backyard garden. They are such a fragrant flower. I wish it was one that bloomed throughout the entire season! I had one in the front yard but had to cut it down last year. It was old and not leafing or blooming properly anymore, more of an eyesore as far as I was concerned.

Hi Anna, oh, cooking on the grill! I should have done that today but I wasn't thinking. I put some stuff in the crock for stroganoff. It was still good. I'm also out of gas. Shawn had to use it to bake on some paint for an engine part! Lovely, eh? LOL Maybe he'll fill it tomorrow. Chicken sounds real good, with some macaroni salad!

I love a good thunderstorm!

Yay for spring... I know you've been waiting for a day like this to chase away your winter blues for a looooooong time. You did a fantastic job with that garden, Amy. Of course we can see the difference. We're sensitive, observant women!!! ;)

Um. Now can you come help me with my entire yard?? I need almost all new landscaping now... some grass seed ... a fence... a new patio....

Love the pictures! :)

p.s. Are you expecting temps in the 80s over the next few days, too?

Look at that beautiful yard! *sigh* Do you hire out Amy? lol Seriously, I need you to do my yard.

The boys look like they are having a blast, what fun. I don't think it was quite warm enough here for a water fight. It was nice though!

You enjoy
((hugs))
