Mailbox Monday

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a nice weekend. It was rainy and dreary here, and I did a whole lot of nothing :).

My child is going on his 'Big' fourth grade field trip today. They are going to Niagara Falls to ride on the Maid of the Mist! I'm not going. Not that I couldn't go, but because I DO NOT want to go. I could have chaperoned, but I've seen those boats every time we go to the Falls and I think "No f-in way am I ever getting on one of those boats!" All those people piled in. Nope, I'm not a boat person. I know Devin is going to have a fabulous time. I'm not really nervous something bad might happen, I am a little sad that I won't be there, watching him experience something I know he thinks is so cool! And, I got a secret letter in the mail the other day. Yeah, the school likes to keep things secret, it's fun! Last year Devin received the President's award for Achievement and this year he is getting the President's award for Excellence! It's fun that the school keeps it from the kids and makes it a surprise. I'm glad they notify the parents, it gives us the opportunity to make plans to be at the assembly!

Anyway, I did have a fabulous mail week! Sue-Ellen Welfonder sent me a stone that she brought back from one of her travels to Scotland. She says it came from the Isle of Skye. Dude, that is such an awesome gift, and it's such a beautiful stone. It sits on my table beside my chair in the living room. I have wanted to go to Scotland for so long now. I don't know if I will ever get there, but I sure hope that someday I will. Maybe when the kid's all grown, I don't know, but someday! It was just such a special gesture for Sue-Ellen to send me my own little piece of Scotland! Thank you so very much!

I did get some new books at the books store. They're all fantasy too!

Mercedes Lackey - Arrows of the Queen
(first book in the Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy)
Livia Dare - In the Flesh
Naomi Novak - His Majesty's Dragon
(First book in the Temeraire Series)

What about you, did you get any new books this week?

Hi Amy,

Congrats to Devin and you on his super awards at school! I know you must be so proud of him. :)

I've been wanting to read His Majesty's Dragon, it does sound like a good book.

Sue-Ellen's gift is such a treasure!

Hi Amy,
Congrats on your son getting the Presidential Excellence award!! That is awesome. I hope he has a wonderful time on the boat. I have to admit, when we saw the boats on the travel channel I so wanted to go on one. I love boats, and I cant think of a better way to experience the Falls.

Sue Ellen sending you a piece of Scotland is awesome!!

I saw His Majesty's Dragon somewhere recently. I think I almost added it to my Kindle. I am going to have to double check on it.

It was Renee, from Renee's Book Addiction that first set my eye on Naomi Novak's series, and I finally decided to pick up the first book. I'm sure it's as good as she says!

And yes, I am thrilled Devin is getting an award! It's great because he has no clue!

I have to say "DUH!" The reason His Majesty's Dragon looked so familiar... I did order it for my kindle. I'm ducking the books that may be thrown at my head... it was a freebie.

That's okay, Heather! I'll let this one pass, seeing as how it's Monday and all! But how cool is that...you got it free!

Nice list! Mine is up.

I climbed a small mountain in Ireland a few years ago. Brought a stone back from the top - I think the best souvenir I've ever collected :)

Amy C said...

Hey Blodeuedd! You read Novik's series too? And you like them? Now I'm even more excited to read the first book!

How neat, Mary! Thank you for sharing that. Sometimes the simple things are the best things :D.

That is cool, no pun intended, that Devin is boating in the mist.

That rock from Sue-Ellen is an awesome gift.

New Books? I got three fantasies too. "The Dragons of Babel" by Michael Swanwick, "Dragonspell" by Katherine Kerr, and "In the Flesh" by Livia Dare.

Let me know when the assembly for Devin's award is. I'll be there.

In the Flesh looks like a good one. I'll have to see if BN has it when I go this week. :)

That is soo very cool that Sue-Ellen sent you a piece of Scotland. :)

Wow, what a great gift!

I bet Devin will love the Maid of the Mist. I went the summer after I graduated HS and it was gorgeous.

I've been on a category romance kick, so I ordered a bunch of old categories last week. They should be here any day now. :)

Hi Amy,
I'd love to visit Scotland too! And Niagara Falls... But...

My new books are Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas and Burning Wild by Christine Feehan, a historical and a paranormal, where is my fantasy?

Hey Amy!
I was on the Maid of the Mist a couple of years ago and thought it was awesome... I bet Devin loved it.

You're little piece of Scotland is very cool! You have such nice friends.

I bought two books last week and amazingly they aren't even romance! *gulp* Both are mainstream fiction. *gasp* I know, I know! Crazy, huh? ;)

I really hope you like the Temeraire series! It's such an original world, and I just LOVE Will's relationship with Temeraire.

I'm on my way to the library to pick up some requests, now, including The Bride Finder! (Finally, lol.)

Hope you have a great week!

Eva! Eva! No Fantasties this week?? Aomeday maybe you'll get to visit Scotland and Niagara Falls! I live so close to the falls and have been there several times that it doesn't seem all that exciting!

Hey Christine, I've actually enjoyed books lately that don't focus so much on the romance. Sometimes change is needed!

Hey Estella! The Leaning Tower of Pisa! HA!

Hey Renee, I really hope you like the Bride Finder! That's awesome. And I'm really excited to read His Majesty's Dragon!

Lea, me and boats don't get along! And all that water...NOT!

Hi Mary G, so glad you dropped in. Thank you! I had alot of fun doing that Hi Lea sign for her! And Beth and Julie were so nice about the whole thing. Maybe next year I'll be able to travle across the border. My license expires this year so I'm going to look into getting the enhanced one so I don't need to get a passport. My mom will need to do the same. I won't go without her :).

Hi Amy! I love going on the Maid Of The Mist! Niagara Falls is just 20 minutes from me, but still its been a few years since I've gone, but we hope to take a day trip up there this summer! They have awesome fudge on the walk up to the village near the falls! Congrats on your son!! That's so precious on the award! He'll love that boat ride, they look at everything as fun. I love to be in boats, but I hate to fly!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Mercedes Lackey. I've been wanting to try epic fantasy series but too those that has some romance in them, like a romantic theme that's part of the story. Livi Dare's book is on my wishlist to get. The other author is one I haven't heard of, so I love to hear about yours!

I never thought of posting all that comes in the mail (books that is, not bills) :) Great idea! Cuz you're adding more to my wishlist :)

By the way, neat on the stone from Scotland! That's a treasure!

Hey Caffey,

We really should get together someday for coffee and a trip to the bookstore or something! Me and my mom get together all the time. What do you say??

I'll definitely voice my thoughts on the Mercedes Lackey book since it'll be the firs tof hers for me! She has tons of books, so I decided just to start at the beginning :).

You should do mailbox mondays too!
