A little Sillyness

A few weeks ago Devin was sitting in bed with me and he had his leg stretched out by mine and I happened to look down and couldn't believe it! His feet are bigger than mine! Length wise they are the same, but mass wise, his are bigger. He's Ten! I didn't think his feet would be bigger than mine that young. Just kinda through me for a loop and I had to take a picture. Now it's documented :). I'd say he's going to be as tall as me by next summer.

I can't believe how fast he is growing. I love every moment of it. I don't necessarily miss any of it, because I look forward to what lies ahead. And I don't want to miss any of that by missing what has already passed, you know what I mean?

Ten! A whole freakin decade!

He's not a baby anymore, or at least that's what he tells me. I look at him and am amazed at how grown up he looks. And I wonder what he's going to look and act like in another ten years. He gets on my nerves more than any one person ever has, but, dude, he's my baby! He's supposed to get on my nerves. Daddy always says to him, "Save the drama for your mama." And unfortunately for me, he has!! Every damn moment of it :)!! I am so lucky!

Here is one other picture that I took on our way to Letchworth last weekend for our anniversary. I don't remember driving on this road when we went back in June, but apparently we did. I made Shawn stop so I could snap a shot! In case you didn't know, that's my last name :)! I thought that was pretty darn neat.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Got any plans?

Me, Devin and my mom are going to check out the Botanical Gardens later this morning. I've never been there and it sounds beautiful! All the different botanical houses.

Hi Amy
Sounds like Devin is going to be tall. My son uses my shoulder as an elbow rest to remind me of how short (5 foot 6 inches is not short)I am compared to his 6 feet 4 inches. Love the feet picture & the Cummings sign. LOL Save the drama line. I'm adding "save the bad for your dad". I'll let you know how that goes over. He's 19 - I'll get the eye roll I bet! Enjoy the gardens.

Oh I love going to the botanical gardens!! You'll have a ball!!

Your post reminded me of a passage of Janet Chapmans Wedding the Highlander where little Robbie is 8 but he's the size of a man already. Boys grow so fast!

No real plans this weekend, I have to work tomorrow and I hope to get some quality reading done!

Have a great time at the gardens

Hi Mary,
"Save the bad for your Dadd!" I like that one :). Yeah, 5'6" is not short! I'm 5'3" and my mom is 5'1". Your son is tall! Ha! I get the eye roll all the time! My son thinks I'm a dork most of the time :).

Hi Amanda,
I love Janet Chapman :). I hope you get some good quality reading in too. Mine has slowed down the last couple days, but we've been busy, and it's hard for me to get good reading in before 8 pm now that the kid's out for the summer. ANd I'm not a late night person. 10 pm and I'm done for!

Hey Blodeuedd,
Your weekend sounds fun! Enjoy your visit with your friend. How far away do your parents live from you if you're staying over?

What a sweet post!! Each year at Christmas I trace both of my kids feet (just 1 foot) and a hand and we put it together to look like a reindeer.....sounds silly but it is really cute. Anyway both of them started out being these cute tiny little reindeer and now they are HUGE mooses! Both of my kids have really big feet....daughter wears a size 10 and my son is wearing a 12 already! I seem to be buying new shoes for my son every other month these days, he is outgrowing everything!

Have a wonderful day out with your Mom and son!!! :)

Hi Amy!

What a wonderful post! My youngest has grown so much during the last years, he's 13 and is a head taller than me already, 3 shoes sizes bigger, and starting to sprout a growth on his upper lip. His voice is so deep now that I listened to my hubs voice mail message and couldn't believe it was the same sweet voice. I remember when that started happening to my oldest, but it's more traumatic this time. I think because it's my baby! For some reason, as my daughter has gotten older, it's been fun for me, I guess because I always did like something for fancy dress up duds, I've bought her three homecoming dresses already and school hasn't started. She doesn't even have a date! Okay, I'm starting to freak myself out. LOL!

I hope you have a great time at the botanicals, I love to go there! Have fun!

Dottie :)

Hi Amy! I know the feeling of kids growing up so fast! When my daughter began wearing MY shows at age 10 and they fit I couldn't believe it. Where'd the time go? Now all my daughters take my clothes and shoes! :o)

Hey Amy! Oh, I agree with you... where does time go... by one and only baby is now 15, stands at 5'8" (I am 5'5") and has bigger feet than me!! Watching her grow has been an amazing journey though. I love to look back and see from where she has come from, but I am like you... not going to sit there missing it... because you will miss what is right in front of you.. if that makes sense!
I hope you guys have a wonderful time at the botanicals!!!! Enjoy!

Hi Amy,
they do grow fast....Enjoy your time with him, soon he'll be 25 like my youngest!!

Botanical Gardens sounds wonderful, I'll be home with some friends coming over. I hope hubby doesn't work all weekend... But then I have more time with my books, of course!

Amy, they just get bigger and bigger. Blanche reminded me of what I do at Christmas. When my boys were 2 1/2 and barely there (LOL) I made a Christmas tree skirt, and we decorated it with their handprints. Every year, we put their handprints on it. This year, I couldn't believe how huge they both were. Oldest is a man and youngest's are bigger than mine now. Enjoy every minute of Devin's childhood, and every minute as he gets older, too!

Have a fabulous time at the Botanical Gardens! My hub has a gig tonight, so I'll be rocking out to that, then tomorrow, we're going to see The Proposal.

Hey Blanch, that doesn't sound silly at all. That sounds like something I wish I had started with Devin and what Lori said she's done with the hand prints on the tree skirt! those are such great momentos to have for the future to look back on. I don't have anything like that. Well, I do have a scrapbook page that I did the handprints with fingerpaints when Devin was about 3 1/2, I think. That was alot of fun.

Oh Dottie! The facial hair and the deepening of the voice! I understand that it's harder for you with your youngest becasue he is your baby, even though you've been through it already. He's your baby!

Haha! MsM! My son will walk around with my sandles on. It's a little weird to see :).

Hey Cecile, it is an amazing journey, isn't it? And what you said makes perfect sense!

Hi Eva, you have a 25 year old? I always wonder what Devin will be like as an adult. He always tells me he wants to travel the world!

Sounds like an awesome weekend Amy! You enjoy the visit to the gardens! I love gardens, we have beautiful botanical gardens in many provinces. However the one I remember vividly is on Vancouver Island.

You enjoy!

I am going to kick back and read this weekend and looking forward to it! :)

Hi Amy!
Great pics! Those kids sure do sprout right before our eyes. My oldest had a HUGE growth spurt one year when she was about Devin's age. Her physician was shocked when we went for her physical the following year as she grew 4" and gained 20 lbs. in just one year! She also had a lot of real growing pains that year... mostly in her legs. I had always thought that was just an expression, but sure enough... she was hurting!

Have fun at the Botanical Gardens. I love places like that. Be sure to take lots of pictures! :)

Luv the feet pic = memories! Kids grow so fast, it's like you blinked and then they are bigger than you. Wonderful feeling. ^_^

Isn't it crazy how big the kids get? My oldest hasn't surpassed my shoe size but she's almost as tall as I am and she's 11! It's insane! :)

I meant to comment on this the day you posted, but life keeps getting in the way. Not to be ugly or anything, but you have small feet!!! At least thats the way it appears in the picture. I say this out of pure jealousy!! I wear a size 9 and stand almost 5'9. My daughter at 14 is still at least 5 inches shorter and wheres a size 7 shoe. I am starting to wonder if she will get my height or if she will stay short. She doesn't want to get any taller, maybe she will get her wish.

Heather D said...

Oh yeah I meant to tell you---at 10 years old I was wearing my mother's shoes and was already about an inch taller.

Amy C said...

Hi Heather! Well, if you wear a size 9 then yes, I do have small feet! I wear a 6 1/2. I stopped growing by the time I was 14 or 15. I did manage to gain a few inches on my mom by that time :). She's 5'1" I'm 5'3"
