Borders Express....Closing??

If you haven't heard, Borders is closing approximately 200 of their specialty stores, such as the Borders Express stores in malls. I learned this morning that the one I am temporarily employed is one that is scheduled to close sometime in January. So it appears that my hopes of maybe getting hired on permanently will never happen now. I'll be back in the job search again in a few months, if not sooner.

I'm so sad to learn this news. I've been shopping at this particular Borders for a few years now. I've grown attached to the people that work there. Many a Tuesday my mom and I went in there to shop for our new releases and we always left with a smile. And now soon they will find themselves in the same situation me and my husband found ourselves in more than a year ago. I know the fears they are feeling. We suffered those same fears for months before he was finally let go. My heart goes out to those that I've come to look forward to seeing two or three times a month.

I just thought I'd share this bit of disheartening news.

So sorry to hear that both for your job and for me because the ONLY Borders store we have anywhere near me is in the mall. This sucks!

Hey Ms. M,
Well, maybe yours will be one of the 100 or so that will remain open if it's the only one in your area. We have a Borders Superstore, but it's like thirty minutes or so on the thruway. We do go there sometimes, but it's just too far to drive all the time.

That just bites! I'm sorry to hear that your store is closing. I have to go 60 miles to get to my nearest Borders. It's just a regular store. If it closed, I'm sure I'd cry. LOL!

I would say A Borders Superstore = Heaven. ;)

I hope your able to find something quick. I know job hunting is far from fun.

Oh, crap! That really, really stinks!!! I'm so sorry, hon. :( Not just because it's where you shop... but because it's now where you work, for crying out loud!!!! What a major disappointment for you. :((

Hey Anna,
If your Borders is a regular one and not an express in the mall then it's not going to close. Those ones are supposed to all be staying open.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to doing this job hunt thing again. Although, I very well could have anyway. Nothing was ever permanent anyway with my job. But then again this could be a good thing, maybe I can find soemthing a little closer to home. Twenty minutes is kind of a long way to drive, especially in the winter when the roads are all snowy.

Yeah, Christine, it does stink. I know I was hoping to get in this one permanently, but I feel worse for the employees there than I do for myslef, since I knew I was only temporary with the possibility of permanent. But yeah, it still sucks. This job hunting thing is so not my thing!

Hi Amy

Aw man that sucks Amy!! Our bookstore is a Waldenbooks, but does business under the Borders Express, so now I wonder if it's closing too.

We were at the Borders in Champaign, and it was almost bare, so now I wonder if it's closing too.

I was hoping this would work out for you, I know how bummed you must be for both yourself and those that you've been working with and have become friends with.

Jobs are very difficult to come by right now, but don't give up hope, you found this job and you will find another.

What a shame Amy - I'm so sorry! Grr! You'll find another, there'll be something out there for you!

Now that I think about it. When I was at the mall a few months back Waldenbooks was gone, which really was a Borders Express. It shouldn't have been shocking to see it gone, but I was cause Waldenbooks had been at that mall since I was in Elementary school.

Oh, crud! That really bites. I'm so sorry to hear this bad news. Seems the last several years the holidays also mean layoffs, I'm starting to associate the end of the year holiday season with them.

My thoughts will be with you. Things will work out, they always do.

This also means the only retail book store close to me is closing. :( I'll have to either order online or drive to nearly Ft. Hood to get to nearest retail bookstore, which would be Barnes & Noble.

I am so sorry to hear this. For you and for those who work there. I do hope this horrible crisis ends soon, everyone will soon be out of a job.

I'm so sorry to hear this! As one of the other commentors said, I've come to associate the end of the year with layoffs. It's especially sad to go into the holidays with this hanging over you. Hope you find another job soon!

I don't know, Dottie. Both Borders Expresses and Waldenbooks are closing. I hope yours and Donna's are not ones closing. It really sucks that so many of them are being shut down.

Thanks, Julie. Hopefully it doesn't take too many applications to find another one :).

I'm with you Blodeuedd, this unemployment crisis really does need to end and soon. It's getting awful.

Hi Margaret,

Thanks so much for dropping in :). I read and loved Knight of Desire! I actually won it from my friend, Anna's, blog :). I am really looking forward to reading Knight of Pleasure. It's top on the list for the end of the month releases :). You have been blessed with very beautiful eye-catching covers too!

When one door closes, another one opens. And I will pray that this was the foot in the door for something bigger and better for you! I know how much you come to like your job and the people... But I will step back and know that God knows what he is doing.
My prayers will be with you and your family!
Love ya honey!
